Not particularly good. It is well-written - that is, the descriptions are solid and the characters reasonably so. There wasn't anything in the words that threw me out of the story. But the plot is mostly a series of coincidences (why did the jet swerve? And so convenient she was aboard...) and events that trigger major changes and are thereafter ignored (so who _was_ it who attacked the base, and why is David not in any way involved in figuring that out? Given that his team has previously played security? Come on). Not to mention one of my pet peeves, aliens with special powers which are basically to make them more sexy (ok, mental powers have other uses...but not in this story. And the exposed nerve lines, and the fact that she (and her entire species) "needs sex to relieve her stress"? Oh, come _on_). Overwhelming lust to a ridiculous point - he's willing to throw away his career to be with her? And just why is that? And...and...yeah. The sex scenes are frequent, and quite clinical in language (a turn-off for me). The reasons given for the setup don't make sense, coincidence drives the next bit, her choices make very little sense, and then neither of them are thinking at all, as far as I can tell. I'm mildly interested in reading the next book, but if the plot isn't a lot more solid I'll be done with this series and this author. Oh - I got this, long ago, from Netgalley in return for a review. So...here's a review, finally!… (meer)

Ironworker Tina Moreland had overcome many obstacles in her career. Believing that practical experience was the best addition to her architecture degree, she had taken a job welding on a high-rise construction site in New York City. While scanning the surrounding buildings and examining architectural details using her binoculars, Tina happened to notice an outrageously handsome man in the office across the street, and as she continued to watch him, she was stunned to realize he was removing his clothes. Staring intently as he stood naked in his office, she was so shocked when he lifted his hand and drew a rectangle of fire in the air that she lost her balance and fell off the high-rise, tumbling dozens of floors to her certain death.

Devin Ken’Draga felt the woman’s scream echoing through his consciousness, and calling upon his stored magic, he reached out his hand to stop her from falling. Needing more power, Devin pushed farther into the portal separating their worlds, and then pushed harder still, determined to save the woman from dying. Tightening his hold upon her, Devin realized they had fallen completely into his realm, and discarding his human form, Devin returned to his natural form, unfolding his wings and allowing his scales to shimmer in the sunlight. As Tina regained consciousness, she was terrified to realize she was being held in the sharp and deadly talons of…a dragon. A DRAGON? When the dragon set her down, and returned to his human form, Tina was even more confused. That gorgeous man from the office across the street was really…a dragon. He had saved her from falling off the building, and that act had used all his strength, requiring him to pull her through the portal into his world…a dragon world, in the middle of a barren desert, where Devin would reclaim his rightful position as Kenta of Sa’Harin.

This was an interesting story with many exciting scenes that definitely held my attention. Devin’s determination to reunite the dragon clans was admirable, and his feelings of self-doubt and concerns of failure were quite realistic. Tina’s inner strength and adaptability, gained from being raised in foster homes, was necessary in accepting her transportation to Sa’Harin and also the fact that she could never return to Earth. I enjoyed watching Devin and Tina’s relationship grow and develop, and found their erotic scenes to be believable, even though he is a dragon and she is human. The descriptions of the scenery were clear and easily imagined, and the other characters were realistic and well developed. I enjoyed this short story, and am curious to see what happens with the rebuilding of Sa’Harin.
