Chris Carling

This is an excellent book that I had rather personal reasons for reading. It tells the true story of the author's elderly parents who develop two different types of dementia at the same time. It details the changes in her parents, some gradual, some sudden, and Chris Carling's changing relationship with them, as she struggles to keep up with and recognise their evolving needs. It details what it is is like to suddenly become part of 'the system' - needing to become involved with different health professionals, funding, acquiring information and answers to questions, and beginning the round of looking for a suitable care home, and agonising over whether it's the right thing to do. Written with insight, honesty, clarity and at times humour, I found this hard to put down - reading nearly all of it in one evening.… (meer)
