The movie was originally idealized & supposedly directed by Orson Welles. I reckon Bertold Brecht was hardly known by 1947, but I'd say his emerging ¨halo¨ influenced Chaplin. This is less obvious than , say, supernatural. Surface level similarities: the strictly episodic structure, tragic use of irony, philosophical use of history as a distancing effect and its echoes on the present.

The tramp, one of the coolest characters of all time, captivated audiences with iconic looks and whimsical antics. In "Modern Times" (1936), he serenades with a nonsense song, an on-screen vocal appearance, and a pre-Michael Jackson cool iconic moonwalk.

The creator of "la Violetera", the Almeria composer José Padilla, took Chaplin to court to defend his copyright and the judge ruled in his favor. Chaplin had to recognize "La Violetera" and pay him a compensation. Since then, La Violetera has been one of the most famous songs in the repertoire of great artists like Sara Montiel.… (meer)
