This movie is special to me because it involves my first experience with mansplaining.
In my senior year of high school, my first boyfriend told me this movie didn’t exist while I was watching it. I had had a spinal tap that failed, which I don’t recommend. I had to lie flat while the patch healed and the grinding pain in my head tried to kill me. I was on intense pain killers, granted, but still. I turned on cable and was graced with Killer Klowns. I lost it, and called the boyfriend, giggling madly about cotton candy and popcorn guns and and and.
He told me it was my heavy pain killers and that I needed to rest.
I told him to turn on Cinemax, it’s real.
He told me to turn off the tv and close my eyes with the most patronizing tone ever.
I told him more about the movie, he told me again it was the medication, and we hung up. And I continued to watch the movie and laugh.
