Free Book via bookBub. The author has a disconcerting writing style where the tale flips between the third person of Leut. Ioli Cara and the murder she is investigating, and the first person of her boss Captain Papacosta. As this is the writer's style, and as it is his fourth book, one would think that he had settled comfortably into the division, however in the first couple of chapters editing has failed to removed crossovers which are confusing and frankly annoying. The author also has an interesting way of describing details eg tanned-from-the-Greek-sun tourists and ...the aging airconditioning unit hanging from the 'begging for a fresh hand of paint' blue wall'. However descriptions of individuals, the villages, the houses and even the temperature with the oppressive heat hanging over the Cyclades Islands are brilliant and, when not cluttered with hyphens seamlessly make the novel come alive. The murder(s) are not descriptive, only the after effects, so although one is particularly gruesome it is strangely easy to read through, in fact there is little putting one self in the murderer's mindset until the latter half of the book. There is a lot of background sadness in the lives of the characters. Widows who wear black for over 40 years, mothers who have lost several children, parents who in earlier books may have lost their only child. This reminds us of the fragility of life for those who live in apparently idyllic locations. There will be those who will enjoy all the Greek Island Mysteries, I recommend them for those who love the locations and the characters and can cope with the split storytelling.… (meer)

The brutal murder of a promiscuous young woman is blamed on a learning impaired boy and investigated by pregnant Detective Ioli and two rookie cops on a beautiful Greek Island while her partner gets caught up in a missing person case of his own while vacationing on board a cruise ship.

Although I was a little confused by Officer Valentina's reaction to her second body of the day, the story was still a worthwhile who dunnit read.

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.… (meer)

This was very well written. I had no clue who the killer was and was surprised by who it was. I really enjoyed this murder mystery.
