In “Clouds”, lucid language and vivid photographs have come together to acquaint young readers about a very basic component of environment called “Clouds”. Firstly, I liked the fact that the author chose a relatively uncommon topic to discuss and that too in a very simplistic manner for kids to enjoy. The formation, purpose and types of clouds have been elaborated just concisely. The content features including a table of contents, glossary, highlighted words, diagrams and an index make this a fine choice for classroom reading activities and projects.… (meer)

Summary:

This is a book that discusses the reason why and when we celebrate Remembrance Day. It gives facts about why Remembrance day is celebrated, why it is on the day that it is, as well as the places around the world that partake in Remembrance Day. It also tells the reasons for Poppies being incorporated into the holiday.

Personal Reaction:
I enjoyed the facts given in this book. I think it would be a good introduction to WWI unit or just a one day unit on Remembrance day even.

Classroom Extensions:
1.) Have the students create their own paper poppies and write down a brief story of someone or something that they would like to remember.
2.)Ask the students to research and write a brief paper on one of the War Memorials in the US.
3.) Have the students select a figure from World War I to research and write a short biography on.

This book is very good for kids learning about clouds The image examples in the beginning define clouds through cartoon and particles. The rest of the book is represented with photographs. I thought it was really interesting that at the back of the book, there is a note for parents and teachers reading this to their children. The note helps children comprehend the story if you ask the questions given before reading and after reading. It also have questions to ask meant for sentence structure (ex. "Ask children to look at page 7. How many sentences are on this page?") and word recognition (ex. "Have children point at the word water on page 6. Can they also find it on page 21?").… (meer)
