Richard Benbury Creecy

Creecy was a long time editor of the Elizabeth City Economist. Long lived, he wrote his personal recollections of North Carolina people and events. Known as Colonel, in the Southern honorary sense of the word, he was a Lost Cause apologist, anti-populist and Progressive proponent. In 1903, unable to raise the funds to publish his History book, he won the imprimatur of the NC General Assembly who agreed to pay for publication.
