As a part of my Bibliomystery collection: yes. Lots of book talk, takes place in a special collections library, involves librarians and scholars and book auctions, etc. I read and finished, but my eyes were tired from rolling so much. Had to check my dictionary a couple times-- some good vocab words to be found.
My friend Tom Harris tried to read this book, but didn't make it to Page 20. I manage to reach page 56 before I gave up. Much too slow! Too much fodder! And forget about the writing. eg: Instead of simply saying a character was dead, the author wrote, "Oh,' Hortense emitted, recognizing the possible permanency of the auditor's condition." Moi does not recommend.
Engaging, and informative. His characters are somewhat flat, less so with the prime sleuth, Hortense Killingsly and her husband. While the story line was fairly basic in the 'who-dun-nit' region, the dialog was entertaining and at times challenging. A good read, not close to Dorthy L. Sayers if we compare PhD, to PhD moonlighting as mystery writer. I would be interested in learning more of the Author.
A fun read with interesting characters, the story is centered around a library and rare books. Although the story dragged on occasion, it is an enjoyable read and I would like to see more mysteries from this author.
