When Michael Barton returns home from work, he finds his wife Tammy still asleep and their son Kristian missing. The case is given to Detective Jason Strong to investigate. But with no clues and no motive how can he find the child. Michael feels that only he is still interested in finding his son, no matter how long it takes, no matter what it takes.
An interesting crime story

St. Louis police homicide detective Dan Cutter has retired from that high-stress position to a rural life in Stone County, where his old friend is the sheriff--and an on-call job as the county's homicide detective. He's had a little time to get to know his new colleagues and neighbors, but is still "You moved here from St. Louis, right?" when a well-like businessman turns up dead near his truck some miles from home, shot to death almost execution-style.

Dan soon finds himself comforting the grieving wife and daughter, while he and his partner, Liz, a full time detective in this slower-paced community, start piecing together the evidence.

Who knew Frank? Everyone. Who were his enemies? The only one with a motive that looks strong enough to kill over was sitting in jail at the time, and had been for several weeks.

Yet, clearly, someone did kill him.

A lug wrench has a thumb print that doesn't match anything in the criminal fingerprint database. Both wife and daughter had handled the threatening note they received, and only has their fingerprints recoverable on it.

Stone County may have a slower pace than St. Louis, but it's not any less complicated.

I like the characters who are clearly going to be the regulars, and everyone gets enough characterization to seem human and plausible. This looks like a good start to an enjoyable new mystery series. Recommended.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from the author, and am reviewing it voluntarily.

Boston Homicide (The City Murders #1) by John C. Dalglish
I live nearby and wanted to hear about the city as I've visited but in health medical related areas.
Starts out with Danny and he's just gotten promoted to detective and his wife is ready to give birth to their first child.
His whole family had jobs in the force. He is assigned with another and they get their first case real quick and start investigating.
Like hearing how they investigate and the little things they notice. Brought back a lot of memories for me because my father was also on the police force and now I can understand why he did not want to advance-he would've meant being home less then he was with us 5 kids.
He went through state police training and was is known as a specials cop, watching schools at Halloween eve and directing traffic and riot control-things that were not called often.
Like how the cases pile up and they can't find a link. He goes against orders and investigates himself.....
Can't believe everything he uncovered. Really enjoyed this one as it was not so gory. Can't wait to read more from this author-x read!
I received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.
