I'm sorry to say that I did not enjoy this one. I loved the first one and had high expectations. However, I found this one mostly boring. I kind of had to force myself to finish it. It lacked the freshness of the first. The romance was barely there and seemed forced and what romantic conflict there was was resolved too rapidly.

The story mostly dealt with the struggle between the good guy werewolves and the bad guy werrwolves with a generous helping of ancient, mystica,l not clearly explained fae ish type stuff clouding the issue. I saw plenty of indications of future storylines but more than likely I won't continue with the series.… (meer)

A lucky random pick. At last a good new werewolf world. The world building here was stellar. This was a well thought out complex world. There were a lot of different elements suck as only those who were born equally wolf/man being acceptable to the ruling class. All the others those born human who could shift to wolf and those born wolf who couldn't shift to human being either killed or enslaved by the rulers called Guardians. In this world you have to be born a werewolf not changed and there hasn't been a werewolf born in 300 years. So of course the heroine's son throws things into a bit of chaos.

This book starts in the middle of the story. The heroine, Sophie, has been on the run from her werewolf husband, Dyland, for 15 years with their son whom he knows about but has never met. She ran on the night that she was shown that Dylan was a shifter and he told her that he would take her child from her if she ever tried to leave. So she ran.

She has been on the run for 15 years and really I kept getting flashes of Sara Conner. She's turned herself into this super bad ass fighter chick and has brought her son up the same way. She has to return to Dylan though when she realizes that Joshua will be a shifter too and is going to need his father's help.

In addition to great action, and great world building I loved the love story. Because they were reuniting lovers there wasn't an unbelievable insta love element to get over. They had both made mistakes and were willing to try harder and differently this time. Well drawn secondary characters really rounded out the story. I am totally looking forward to the next one.

All his life, the hero has lived in the form of his wolf. Born defective in the eyes of the Guardians, he meets the heroine, a gentle woman whom treats him with respect and honor. No closer bond can be shared between two souls and when the heroine uses her frightening her powers to take the wolf from the enemy and give the hero the power to shift into his human form, he's overwhelmed by the idea that he could finally express to her his true feelings. But he doubts himself. He leaves for 9 months to discover how to be human so he could be worthy of her but all this does is hurt the heroine's feelings. She feels like she's lost her only friend and it's so lonely when her clansman make her feel unwelcome because of her powers. So when he returns to her, she is over joyed. But now she wrestles with a deeper problem. Her friend is no longer a wolf but a man. Beautiful and tempting. Neither knowing where the other stands in regard to the changed dynamic of their relationship, they tip toe around their mutual desire until finally neither can stand it any longer and they surrender to their love. The heroine begins to teach the hero the act of making love, and together they bond as true mates. But just when they think they have their happily ever after the heroine is betrayed by a friend, kidnapped and imprisoned by the enemy who wants her-or mainly her powers- for himself. Believed to be dead by her family after so long without contact, the hero never gives up on her. Then she begins to visit him in his dreams, telling him she's alive and needs his help. The hero mounts a rescue, willing to do any and everything needed to save his mate. I really enjoyed this book. It was definitely fantasy but it had a heavy emphasis on a love story. The gentle yet frightening powerful heroine, living in her cottage and longing for the love of a wolf. The hero, still adjusting to life as a man and wanting the heroine with every inch of his soul yet stumbling over how to make her see inside his heart. Together they made a heartwarming and dedicated pair. Love rooted in friendship is said to be the strongest of all and they certainly had a lasting love story.… (meer)

Widowed by the death of her much older and abusive husband, the heroine calls in a debt from the neighboring clan for protection and control of her home. Immediately she takes note of the alphas brother who's inner wolf is becoming harder and harder to deny. Being born in wolf form, he feels sever and stabbing pain every time he pushes down his alpha instincts but he refuses to dishonor his alpha brother. They marry under a contract and know that their union will be nothing but business. Unfortunately it doesn't turn out that way. The hero awakens the heroines inner woman and she can't help but fall for her new husband who mourns the death of his mate and fights his feelings for his new wife. He feels like he's betraying his dead mate when he finds himself wanting his wife as more than just a marriage by convenience and spends the book locked in an internal struggle as to what to do. Though the heroine is understanding of his vows to the other woman, her wolf won't allow him to deny her any longer and she uses her feminine wiles and sexuality to push him over the edge. I really liked this book but it lacked the intensity of the first book. There was passion and the hero was soo delicious-I couldn't wait to read about his story after reading the first book in the series. But I didn't feel this addition had the same level of chemistry as the first and I did feel like the two characters feel in love together much too easily. There wasn't any real conflict either between the two or in the story in general. Other than the fight few chapters there was no villain or anticipation of a fight or really anything of much note going on. Sad to say that I found myself waiting for something big to happen and it never really came. It was a lovely book and I loved the two character as themselves and them together but the story was dull and very mellow.… (meer)
