Now pretty well forgotten in their own right, this Alabama brother-act of singer-songwriters survives, if at all, through association with a few of their songs like "Blue railroad train", "Gonna lay down my old guitar", and "Brown's Ferry blues". Theirs was a comparatively mellow sound widely heard on Sourthern radio in the 1940s and 50s. This re-issue from the invaluable County 400 series serves their memory well. And o yes, though there is ni mention it on the notes to this album, elder brother Alton was the author of a memoir with one of the greatest titles ever, TRUTH IS STRANGER THAN PUBLICITY.
