This was a good book, well-written with compelling characters, a plot that isn't either too transparent or too opaque and definitely not cliche. However, I won't be reading any more books in the series just because the violence was so pervasive. It was a bit much for me.

Rafferty is suckered into aiding and abetting in a murder and of course it all goes downhill from there. The writing itself is not bad and I can see a reader getting caught up in the humor and the characters but there was way too much inconsequential filler that does absolutely nothing to advance the story. About halfway through I found I had to go back and reread to see if by some chance I had missed something. I also found that the "romance" lines between Rafferty and Hilda would have better suited a couple in high school than two middle aged adults.… (meer)

Rafferty is on holiday, alone on a boat. It starts well as he is accused of the murder of Cynthia Lawson, then gets beaten up. This makes him involved. But why was she killed and by whom.
