A pleasingly through, yet accessible, overview of the sundry philosophical justifications for the idea of a "right." The author points out the strengths and weaknesses of each school or tradition, but is largely unconcerned to advocate for any one above the others. Most readers will not be similarly agnostic about the "correct" way to understanding the claim to have a right, but will nevertheless be forced to concede that important desired positions may not follow upon that favored reading.
