I picked up this book because I knew Lora Innes did the art, and I really enjoy her other work. The art did not disappoint, but I found the story being told to be disjointed and somewhat frustrating. This is a tie-in to the television series of the same name, and as I read I felt there was an expectation that I should already have a vested interest in and knowledge of the characters showing up. As I have not seen the television series, said existing interest and knowledge were not present for me. All told, I would say this does not serve as as particularly good introduction point to the franchise, which is a shame.… (meer)

To be honest I wasn't expecting much from this book. But I really enjoyed it.

When the TV show first aired I thought it looked interesting. Cool concept, female badass kicking ass Buffy style: I was onboard. Except after a couple of episodes I gave up. The show was limping with material that should have had it leaping. I was honestly surprised it made it to two seasons.

On a whim I picked up this volume (libraries have the best prices for those uncertain reads). And this was good. This was everything I had expected of the TV show. What's wrong with doing direct adaptations these days?… (meer)

I love the TV show on multiple levels, but this TPB was nowhere near being the TV series.

It had all the same characters, Dolls, John Henry, Wynonna. But its soul was different, not to mention it took all these things from the show and messed with them in weird, weird ways.

I'm unsure if perhaps the comic came first or something?

The one thing that I did really like about the TPB was the character of Valdez. She was just the right combination of kick butt warrior princess (Mayan in this case) and humorous woman too.

Unfortunately, overall it was a bummer of a TPB.

I got this ARC through Netgalley on behalf of IDW Publishing.

I picked up this comic because I like the other work of the artist, Lora Innes. On the art front, I was not disappointed, but in terms of story I felt confused and frustrated. I have not seen the television show on SyFy, so I had no link to/vested interest in the characters or the setting or anything else. If this comic series is supposed to serve as a potential entry point to the franchise, it doesn't do a particularly good job. It doesn't even do a particularly good job of getting this reader, at least, interested in checking out the show.… (meer)
