I studied briefly with Harold in 2001-2002 and have been a follower of his work ever since. He was a generous spirit and a visionary photographer whose popularity came late. This book, in particular, heavily influenced my own photography. Although, in a kidding sort of way, he forbade us to bring photographs of flowers into his workshop, there was no proscription on taking flower photos afterward, and in my case flower photos, manipulated on the computer in a different way than Harold, became my main focus for many years.

Each image in this book is mesmerizingly beautiful in its own way. I recommend this to anyone who has found a flower beautiful, which I think is probably almost everyone.

Were you ever blessed as a child to have beautiful, large, full-color coffee-table type books full of gorgeous nature photographs? I wasn’t, but if I had One Hundred Butterflies would have been amongst my favorites.

Harold Feinstein is a professional photographer who has captured one hundred striking specimens in this photographic masterpiece. Though the introductory author’s note and foreword claim that butterflies represent a masterpiece of evolution, I instead see within the pages of this book and the butterflies captured therein the wonders of God’s creative hand at work, and His great love of beauty and diversity.

Printed on heavy, glossy paper, each butterfly is photographed against a deep, black background. Many butterflies are presented on a two-page spread – one page showing the top of the butterfly, the other page showing the underside. Butterfly quotations are also sprinkled throughout the text.

This is such a beautiful, and inspirational book, not only for insect-lovers (which we tend to be around here), but also for general interest readers. There is no doubt that this is a gorgeous book – certainly one that is not to be missed!

Spectacular color photos of 100 hybrid flowers. All of the flowers share one full over-sized page and have been framed by darkened backgrounds for added contrast. Amazing work.

Harold Feinstein's One Hundred Butterflies is much like Andrew Zuckerman's Bird - stark photographs against an austere background (black, in this case, instead of white). I did appreciate the captions here though, and Fred Gagnon's foreword was a welcome addition, as were the occasional butterfly-related epigraphs. Lovely, striking images of these most beautiful of creatures.
