Helen Ferril

An amazing little book! It was inscribed to me by its author, for whom I had done some work, as follows "For The Avid Proofreader (Estasia Wolframata) In remembrance of the Madhouse of the April Runes, April 15 to April 19, 1957 Helen Ferril." I here confess I have no memory of any unusual happenings then. I was working at Publishers Press, in Denver, Colorado. They printed The Rocky Mountain Herald (for its editors, Tom and Helen Ferrill) and she often popped into my office asking for help (Esta, Where does Carl live?" Which implied I knew she meant Carl Sandberg, AND knew where he lived! As a matter of fact I did!) For this and other moments, then, the lovely inscription in this unusual book. Each page has a wonderful illustration, followed by the sort of information found in every guide to. With difficulty I chose to share here THE TOOTHLESS CACKLE "Octogeneria Sportivata)" Mature female. Nature, independent, delightful. Plumage well-garnished brilliant objects. Short flights . . .
