What a ride this series was. From the first few episodes, which do take their time to get into the thick of the plot, you can still get a sense of where the show is headed as we reunite with fan favorite characters that we haven't seen in years from the Rebels animated series to new faces, such as the dark side duo of Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati, played to utter perfection by the late Ray Stevenson and Ivanna Sakhno. While we're on the topic -- the performances in this series are great, and the casting of the Rebels' characters from animation to live-action left nothing to be desired. All of the choices were spot-on, and I don't think could have been done any better. From that though, just from a story standpoint, the series moves at a quick pace, not really having any filler episodes -- each one progresses the plot exponentially well, making for an all-around fun and exciting watch. The series is also packed full of awesome easter eggs, callbacks, references, and cameos, with several returning faces that brought a smile to my face each and every time. There also needs to be a point made about the stellar soundtrack here -- Kevin Kiner, in his return from the animated saga of Star Wars with Dave Filoni, has provided possibly the best Star Wars soundtrack apart from John Williams. It's that good. In fact, the whole season is, and it leaves you wanting to learn more. Highly recommended for Star Wars fans, although some viewers unfamiliar with the animated spectrum might need to do some catch-up.
Content Concerns: Aside from the usual sci-fi violence you'd find in the Star Wars universe, there isn't too much here, although the violence does occasionally get dark. Characters are wounded and die, and (in later episodes) we get some glimpses into the dark magic of the Nightsisters, which also involves the reanimation of the dead (just in time for the spooky season).
