Relax, spend time looking at all sides, touch whenever allowed. Some good advice.

A beautiful book of a under-appreciated collection with a provocative essay by the enigmatic and under-rated Harold Acton.

A pleasant, quick read that I picked up at my library's book sale. It wasn't nearly as judgmental as I feared: the author is essentially advocating identifying the types of art that you're interested in seeing and seeking it out; going through the museum at a pace that you are comfortable with; not trying to tackle too much in one trip; and most of all, to try to keep an open mind. That's pretty much the bulk of his advice. The text is peppered with attractive photos of paintings, sculptures, and museums, some of which I know, many of which I don't. He also has museums he recommends, many of which are close to me in Washington, D.C., so it gave me something to seek out when I'm there next. As someone who frequents museums, it didn't tell me much new, but it did provide evidence that at least I'm not doing it wrong!… (meer)

Though I am not wild about most of the pieces here any photographs by David Finn are going to make a great book. I was going to sneak into the park once, but my wife would not let me. Oh well.
