De wereld draait om de bal : over voetbal en… door Franklin Foer

De mondialisering heeft ervoor gezorgd dat voetbal overal ter wereld bekend is, tegelijkertijd brengt het voetbal het falen van de mondialisering aan de oppervlakte. In de voetbalstadions heerst een andere cultuur dan bij de grote multinationals en wereldleiders. Hier heersen antisemitische, racistische en nationalistische gevoelens, evenals etnische en religieuze conflicten. Ook brengt het voetbal kapitalisme, corruptie en omkoperij met zich mee. Het voetbal kan zelfs de roep om modernisering versterken. Voetbal is dus veel meer dan een spelletje. Voetbal is de samenleving in het klein. De auteur is erin geslaagd om op een heldere en duidelijke manier de mythes en de misstanden van de globalisering in kaart te brengen door middel van een mondiale sport als het voetbal.… (meer)
