Damn near perfect

The book was provided to me for an honest review by NetGalley

I don’t think I can give this book more than 2.5 hot stars.

I had great expectations about the story, but damn, I am so disappointed.

In the book, we get to know the story of the “divorcee” Beth Andrews. A woman in her middle thirties, with some really (And I mean really) bad luck with men. She always falls for douches and assholes. So her sex life is non-existent, and she is horny as hell.

In this time in the apartment above her lives hot sexual maniac and bachelor Jonathan “fuck-machine” Tucker.

They meet and have great and passionate sex, and then fall in love.

And that’s it.

I thought this book is about romance, but after reading it I think that’s not the case. No, cause this book is about sex. And probably around 60% of the story is just them fucking. They don’t even act like they are in a relationship, they just fuck.

And don’t let me start of how unrealistic are the whole sex scenes (like reading some teenager writing fantasy just to masturbate).

I liked how the author described her love life, I like that she tried to show us the misfortune of the heroine, the fucking pussy Harry, the cheater I-don’t-remember-his-name. But something I found missing is her ex-husband. He was never introduced in the story, and only mentioned once (at the beginning), it’s like the author forgot that she wrote him.

The whole book was rushed, and I repeat, the characters were too busy fucking each other, so they couldn’t even get to know each other.

At 47% of the book I was sure that if the couple ever married, their marriage wouldn’t last long. Cause they never really get closer. And I want to prove my point with this scene She needed to research him on the internet so she could learn something about him! On the freaking internet! It’s not like they see each other every day (sarcasm)

I can give to the author that the book is hot, and has some good sex scenes, but nothing really more than that.

The plot twist was just stupid. First her reaction, then his! I mean If they were in a real relationship this whole pointless drama wouldn’t happen.

And one of the last chapters just finished me She threw up! So I guess that means she is pregnant! But one baby won’t solve the problem, and they will just ruin his life.

The characters:

The Heroine, Beth Andrews seemed nice, a little bit awkward, a lot of unlucky, and just slightly crazy.

The Hero – Jonathan Tucker, was hot, a lot of playboy, pretty confident, and a lot of cute. The few romantic moments of the book were initiated by him.

Rating:
Heroine - 3/6
Hero - 4/6
Plot Twist - 1/6
Ending - 3/6
Storyline - 2/6

Definitely won’t recommend it.

Sexy younger man/older woman novella. Beth Andrews' fantasies about her upstairs neighbor come to life and led to happily ever after! Quick, steamy read.

Susan is a bored high society member who is looking for something--anything--to take her out of her boredom in 1925 Chicago. Earlier in the year she had hit an artist and now at her favorite speakeasy she sees him again. She does not want much to do with him. She wants to focus on the singer on stage, Holly. Evan figures she is attracted to Holly and invites her to his studio the next day. She appears but she is unable to sit for him. He throws her out but the next person coming for a sitting is Holly who invites to come again in the future. Will she do it?

I enjoyed this story. The love scenes were hot and plentiful. I love the 1920's and I got a good sense of that period in this book. I like the decadence of that period and I liked that Susan wanted to join in that decadence but is not comfortable. I liked that Holly tried to make her comfortable at Evan's place and teaches her about her wants. Evan teaches her more. Both need to decide what they want. I appreciated what Evan did to show her. I plan to find more of Nancy Fraser's books.

This was a great collection of stories. This is the perfect beach read, fun romances set in a bygone era. Even though most of my knowledge of the 50s comes from TV shows and movies, it was easy to get lost in the stories. The characters all had a wonderful depth to them, and I wouldn't be surprised to meet any of them if I was wandering around a street in the 50s. I loved the little facts at the end of each story regarding that year. (But I love random trivia). If you're looking for your vacation read, look no further! This is the perfect summer collection to turn back the clock for a few hours.… (meer)
