In honesty, I count more than three of the authors in this anthology as friends of long standing.

That said, this is an excellent collection of stories, not a one of which struck a false note with me. EXCELLENT READ if you like faerie stories and fantasies.

Some very good stuff in here (I particularly enjoyed "Friday Night Dance Party," by Thomas Reid, and "The Stricken," by Molly Tanzer). YMMV.

Ghost in the Cogs
As someone who has not read much steampunk, I came to this collection keen to get an insight into the genre. Reading the first few stories I found quite interesting but the attraction started to wane; maybe the quality of writing faded but more likely I just got bored with the somewhat formulaic approach. Overall, and with a few exceptions, it seemed to me that the writers were more interested in polishing their steampunk credentials than in actually writing good stories. 4 July 2019

Ghost in the Cogs: Steam-Powered Ghost Stories door Scott Gable
A steampunk ghost story anthology by (mostly) indie authors. Only 2 names - Parker Goodreau and Nick Mamatas = I've come across before.

In general, the stories were well-written and seemed to hang together, although it's difficult to do much world-building in the confines of a short story. However, I found that this was an anthology that could only be dipped into a story at a time; I found the overall tone to be depressing - a bit like being force-fed misery fiction.

I'm not going to recommend it as it wasn't entirely to my taste overall but others may well like it better than me.… (meer)
