My students had some pretty serious critiques of this book. While it was useful for the explanation of certain terms -- "Wilderness" "Place" and "Dwelling" in particular -- the students generally felt that too much time was spent on case studies that were wandering, verbose, and tangential. They would have preferred a text that dealt more with the vocabulary of ecocriticism rather than its practice. I would not choose to use this text again in a class I teach; I would consider drawing on it for a reader, but I would not require students to purchase it.… (meer)

Vuonna 2004 julkaistu Greg Garrardin ekokritiikkia käsittelevä kirja on tiukka tietopaketti ja laajasti käytetty lähdeteos myös viimeaikaisissa ekokriittisissa teoksissa (katso esim. Toni Lahtisen ja Markku Lehtimäen toimittama "Äänekäs kevät", 2008). Teos sisältää kattavan kuvauksen ekokritiikistä, sen syntymisestä, olemuksesta, tarkoituksesta,ja suuntauksen sisällä vaikuttavista, haarautuvista ekokriittisistä tutkimussuuntauksista (kuten esim. ekofeminismi). Koska teos on englannin kielinen ja lisäksi tietokirja, ainakin minun oli vaikeaa lukea sitä. Suosittelen kuitenkin kirjaa jokaiselle, joka haluaa jotain ekokritiikistä tietää.… (meer)
