The Norwegian title is something like Birkiebeinerne, which is better. This film suffered from a stupid nationalism and "girlfriend in the icebox" cliche. But it has awesome scenes of snow-covered mountains, the northern lights, and men in beards and "cool" mediaeval clothing skiing and shooting. I stuck it out to the end for the skiing and the younger soldier's cool leggings.
The film, "Arn: The Knight Templar" is the Swedish analog with its own nationalistic story. It manages to be vastly more interesting and nuanced, easy to do with several extra hours. And, although the setting is 100 years earlier, it seems later. Perhaps Norway was much more of a hinterland than Sweden in those days.… (meer)
