Continuing on my quest to better appreciate poetry, I selected Autumn Grasses a collection of poems by Margaret Gibson that were inspired by Japanese art reproduced in Art in Japan: A Celebration. The poems are written in Japanese style and describe things seen in the art. Here's a sample:

WILD DUCK

It ruffles
its feathers

Silent, unsleeping

the snow
descends

on bare branch
and pond

Its coal-black eyes
are bottomless

How clear
the air

How cold

Isn't that a lovely image? Now that's a poem I can appreciate :-)
