Poet, novelist, and playwright Barry Gifford was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 18, 1946. He briefly attended both the University of Missouri and Cambridge University. He published a book of poems in 1973 and started writing novels in 1980. He collaborated with David Lynch on Lost Highway and toon meer the HBO series Hotel Room. Bad Day for the Leopard Man (Sailor & Lula, #6) door Barry Gifford

The quality is regressing a bit faster than I would like, at this point, with this 6th tale of Sailor and Lulu.

There are occasional clever lines (which, all highlights and annotations will be displayed when I finish the whole collection), but a shocking amount of this story is recapping previous events, both in Gifford's own work, and in several ostensibly unrelated movies, and then offering interpretations of same.

But the shocking stuff isn't really shocking anymore, and while one can be temporarily amused by a characer calling attention to Gifford's own overreliance on car crashes and kidnappings, acknowledging one's crutches is not the same as subverting them.… (meer)

Perdita Durango (Gifford, Barry) door Barry Gifford

Ramps up the grotesquerie of Wild at Heart by offloading a lot of unpleasantness to a bit character and her new (Latino) companion. It's sordid and completely ungrounded, which means whatever wisdom of the bottom-feeders that existed last time around doesn't, here.
