National park explorers. Books 1-6 by Sara Gilbert
Love this collection of audio books as it not only describes several of the most popular national parks but
also has a bit of history and things that live in the parks and what they are really known for. Pictures are described also. Activities for children to do to help explain what happened in the areas that the book focuses on.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

Baltimore Orioles: World Series Champions
The book “Baltimore Orioles: World Series Champions” was a great information book for readers to learn from! The book includes famous Orioles such as Frank Robinson and Cal Ripken Jr. when educating about Orioles history. The language is descriptive and the reader is given a lot of information without too many words. For example, “In 1954, the Browns moved to Baltimore. They were renamed the Orioles”. The writing is historically sequential so the reader is able to see a timeline. It explains from 1901 when the Orioles began in Wisconsin, moved to Missouri the next year, and by the end of the book the reader is learning about current Oriole, Nick Markakis! The illustrations are real photographs of the Orioles that also label the player in each picture. The reader is able to take a photo walk back in time that brings the text to life. Additionally, at the end of the book, there is a glossary, fun facts, and web sites for children about the Orioles. The table of contents at the beginning of the book makes it easy for readers to go back and reference information they want to refer back to. The big idea is to educate the reader about the Baltimore Orioles!… (meer)

I liked this book for its mixture of illustrations of realistic looking perceived dinosaur behavior and actual photographs of dinosaur bone excavations. I liked how the academic language in this book was bolded and that there was a glossary in the back with those words defined. I liked how the illustrations cut across the page, sometimes parts of the illustration would be faded out and the words of the text scrawled across them. Sometimes the illustrations boldly marched across the page and the words were written around them. That helped to make the book even more interesting. The theme of the book was to inform the reader about Dinosaur’s.… (meer)

I thought this book provided a lot of information on the Tyrannosaurus rex, however it read like a history textbook and was not very interesting. The text was small and the language was academic. I did not find the book enjoyable and it was hard to get through because of the way it was written. If the pictures and words had more excitement, I might have like the book more. I did like that the book bolded vocabulary words throughout the text and included a glossary in the back. There were a lot of complicated, academic words that young readers would not know, so it is important to include simple definitions for the reader. The purpose of the book was to describe how the Tyrannosaurus rex was discovered by archaeologists and paleontologists and what they know about this ancient species.… (meer)
