Dana Gioia is a poet and critic. He has published five collections of poetry, most recently 99 Poems: New Selected, which won the Poets' Prize. His child collection, Interrogations at Noon, was awarded the American Book Award. Gioia's first critical collection, Can Poetry Matter?, was a finalist toon meer for the National Book Critics Circle Award. The "Fallen Western Star" wars : a debate about… door Jack Foley
In 1998 Dana Gioia published an article titled Fallen Western Star: The Decline of San Francisco as a Literary Region. It's a convincing and nostalgic look at San Francisco's history as place where brilliant writers would meet and exchange ideas. But sadly, those days are gone, according to Gioia. This book collects that essay as well as many responses to it. As one might expect, the backlash was pretty fierce and debates were heated -- which I suspect is exactly what Gioia was aiming for. Implying that literary debates were few and far between these days, he set out to create one, and did a pretty good job.

This volume is very short, highly entertaining, and inspiring!… (meer)
