The God Who Weeps: How Mormonism Makes Sense of Life door Terryl L. Givens
I enjoyed this book tremendously. There were a lot of things discussed about the nature of God, His motivations, His character, His goals and objectives... it gave me much to ponder. I love how the author included excerpts from many great writers and philosophers throughout the ages. I highly recommend this book. It may renew your faith as well as challenge your ideas and perspective on the actual purpose of life.
This book is so dense that I had to read it in chunks, as opposed to my usual devouring approach. Both Terryl and Fiona Givens are academics, so it's no surprise their vocabulary takes some getting used to (especially when I spend most of my time reading YA fiction). But I loved so much about this book--they bring in poets, philosophers, religious scholars across faiths to paint a picture of an accessible and loving God. This is one I will have to read (again, in chunks) multiple times to truly soak in.… (meer)
This one was too academic for me to really enjoy reading. Yes, I know this series is academic in nature. I'm just out of practice at reading academic texts and this book reminded me why that is.
I really really do read more than religious non-fiction. This was assigned for a directed readings class I'm in and it does a nice job straddling lines. I love the scholarship that was obviously involved in the creation.
But I still like Chesterton and Lewis better (as far as original thought is concerned). But this was well worth the 4 stars.
