Travel writer Leila Hadley grew up in Greenvale, N.Y., graduated from St. Timothy's School in Stevenson, Maryland, and declined a scholarship to Radcliffe in order to get married. After divorcing her first husband, she found work in the public relations field first with the cartoonist Al Capp and toon meer then for The Howdy Doody Show. In 1951, she left on a two-year trip around the world aboard a schooner, which provided her with the material for her first book Give Me the World. She went on to write a series of guidebooks for travelers with children including How to Travel with Children in Europe (1963), Fielding's Guide to Traveling with Children in Europe (1972) and Traveling with Children in the U.S.A. (1976). She also wrote A Journey with Elsa Cloud, Tibet 20 Years after the Chinese Takeover, and A Garden by the Sea. She was an editor at Diplomat magazine and a cartoon editor at The Saturday Evening Post. She died on February 10, 2009 at the age of 83. (Bowker Author Biography) toon minder
