Over de Auteur

Helen Hamlin (1917-2004) was raised in the Northern Aroostook County town of Fort Kent, Maine. She grew up with an appreciation and love of both the culture of the North Woods and its inspirational beauty-a love affair that lasted her entire life. In addition to teaching school in a remote lumber toon meer camp and living deep in the Maine wilderness as the wife of a fish and game warden, Hamlin also ran the Parmachenee Club, worked as a portrait painter, wrote a best-selling book, served as a French translator in Africa, and traveled the world. toon minder

Very good. I think this book was mentioned favorably by John McPhee.

I really wanted to like this one. I was delighted when I discovered a really nice first edition, hc w/dj, in Abe. And in fact it's not a bad book at all. But I only rate it 3½*** because it has a kind of "Saturday Evening Post" feel to it and you almost expect a Norman Rockwell illustration to appear. It just doesn't come off as entirely realistic and it's just a little too "cute."
