Normally I’m not a devourer of children’s books. Even as a kid I was drawn to adult material. Nonetheless, I’d enjoyed Pippi Longstockings, because she seemed the kind of girl I wanted to chum around with. That’s why I liked Bernice Takes a Plunge, which is about just such an adventurous girl who doesn’t shrink from trouble. I have a grown daughter who outshines her parents in every way. In fact, she’s a “Tiger” daughter, to turn the Tiger mom thing on its head. She dives into one adventurous scheme after another and pulls us along, a lot like the character Bernice in this book. Read and enjoy it!
This book offers practical ideas to kids, like keeping notes as they investigate cases. After all, children are just adults in training and if we can inspire them to charge into life’s adventure they will be ready to nurture that spirit in the spirit-crushing reality of our modern world.… (meer)
