The final, C.A.H. Franklyn, edition of this long-lived work, this one bearing the typical hallmarks (some might say idiosyncracies) of that intriguing scholar, including a severely limited print run, effusive praise of his own schemes of academic dress, trenchant criticisms of other schemes, etc. Notwithstanding this, a fascinating work of impressive scope, also notable for the collaboration of Dr George W. Shaw, author of Academical Dress of British and Irish Universities.

The Scobie Stringer edition, notorious for some inaccuracies but an interesting volume nonetheless, with nice watercolours (though, again, of questionable accuracy) by Lt. Col A.J. Hannah.
