I enjoyed this story because I lived in LA and worked in the TV biz for a long time, really enjoyed all the details about that life that made the book so funny, authentic and relatable. It's not just me! The business is ridiculous, and these authors capture it perfectly.

Evil backstabbers, evil preschool moms, evil everyone - this is a great novel of evil Hollywood. Character actor Mitch struggles to keep afloat (one more failed show and his management may drop him), while his college professor wife June drifts into an affair with producer Rich. These people are nasty, superficial, and hilarious to read about.

About: Biography of daughter of comedian Tony Hendra (whom I had never heard of)

Pros: Considering I had never heard of her before I read this book, it was pretty awesome. Good story, lots of bad family dynamics.

Cons: Stupid title, ugly cover

Grade: A-

I was pretty indifferent towards this book at first. I mean, it's very plainly written, not too emotional or heavy or hard on you. When I started it, I think I was expecting to feel something powerful or more moving, I'm not sure. Definitely not indifference. Towards the middle of it is when I started to warm up to it, once she had reached her teens and was able to understand what her father had done and clearly express how she felt and the affects it had on her. It was also really intresting to see how she dealt with it and how things panned out for her. Since I've been through a similar experience, that's what I was most interested in reading about. Still, the book is nothing to rave about. I really wanted to read it and go, Wow! This book was such a gripping read, such a great story, but I just can't. Her experience is not average, but the book is.

If anything, you can definitely benefit from the outcome of this story. It's very inspiring to see someone struggle through depression, self destructive behavior, self hate, bullemia and anorexia, a father who not only refused to admit to what he'd done, but told you repeatedly not to blame him and that particular incident for your failures, and to just get a life and move on, but somehow find the strength to go on to speak up and out against your father, decide to be okay and be a survivor speaks volumes. The ending really, really got to me though. So in the end, I pretty much got what I expected to get out of it. Still, if someone asked me to recommend a book to them, I'd probably only suggest this one if they grew up in an enviroment where some kind of sexual, mental or emotional abuse had taken place, or were specifically interested in that topic.
