How to Sell a Haunted House door Grady Hendrix
I was expecting more haunted house, less family drama. It starts slow and around page 200, it started to pick up. Then it just got slow again until around 320. The reason why the house was haunted was a good premise, but it just took too long to get there. I skimmed over most of Mark's BU back story. I almost gave it a 3 by the end, but when I found the extras at the end more interesting than the book, I couldn't do it. Finally, I never want to read 'puppet hole' again.
Ankle Snatcher was my favorite short story in the Creature Feature collection. I love how we came full circle with his dad. I thought the prison scenes were really interesting and provided important information that Marcus truly needed.

Kris is washed up and worn out, working at a Best Western, barely squeaking by, trying to forget everything, especially her youth. Once upon a time, she was lead guitarist for Dürt Würk, a heavy metal band on the brink of stardom and success. Terry, her former lead singer, is now embarking on a final tour with his world famous metal band Koffin. But Kris finds out that something sinister, something horrific, happened the night her band broke up– and it’s up to her to stop Terry from unleashing that evil on the whole world.
This book was not as emotionally resonant or as scary to me as My Best Friend’s Exorcism. It definitely had moments of intense fear and horror, and moments of deep connection and meaning. At the heart of the story is the relationship between people. How we betray each other, rely on each other, need each other. The book was pretty great, but it didn’t rock me (no pun intended). I enjoyed reading it– there’s a wicked sense of humor running throughout, even as you cross through landscapes of despair and fear.
However, I will say that after reading most of what Hendrix has written, I really, really trust him to write a great female heroine. Kris is fully fleshed out, and her resiliency and dedication to what she believes is right and true are really awesome to watch unfold.
If you are at all into heavy metal or hard rock, deals with the devil, hidden meaning in lyrics and rock operas, smart, amazing heroines who stumble and fall and get back up again, you should read this book.… (meer)

First I’d like to say, what’s Grady’s obsession with rats? 🐀
This was a fun, spooky, satirical take on a haunted retail store. They workers stay overnight in a store like IKEA because they believe somebody has been breaking in and pooping and breaking things and they are gonna get to the bottom of it. As a former retail manager, people pooping in stores is actually a real thing we deal with and it’s gross. Get your lives together, people.
I loved Basil, he seemed like a truly good dude. Same with Ruth Ann, a wonderful human. She was like that one old lady who works just because she has nothing else to do with her time. I’ve met many Ruth Ann’s. I didn’t care for Amy’s attitude but I completely understood it. She hated Basil but who doesn’t hate their boss, she doesn’t see the person, she just sees the manager.… (meer)
