July 2009 is the 70th anniversary of the beginning of the Battle of Britain, which was one of the most remarkable defensive actions of World War II. This is a collection of over 200 photographs from the wartime archive of the Daily Mail of this extraordinary period of the War whose outcome would shape the modern age.

Excellent, large-format photographs, beautifully clear, well-chosen and captioned. Marred only by a couple of photographs which clearly don't belong: one of what looks like a Mk IX Spitfire shooting down a Heinkel HeIII (possibly a still from the film "Battle of Britain"?) and a shot which purports to be taken in Summer 1940 but clearly shows much later Spitfires with pointed rudders and bubble canopies.
