An original, thorough, and unique approach to language. Hoey builds a case for the need to link priming (as the title suggests) with wider, less grammar-based, more lexical-based thinking about language. Key to his idea is that we must thinking about semantic and pragmatic meaning, the role of collocations and their grammatical positions (colligations), textuality, and the independence of polysemic meanings.

This book filled a gap in my learning about corpus analysis: it provides some theory around the practice of corpus analysis. I definitely needed something like this, since everything I had read to that point focused mostly on methodology. Michael Stubbs essays are especially well done, I think.
