Mary Gardner Holland

Originally published in 1895, the book is a collection of the memoirs of 100 women who nursed for the Union Army during the Civil War. Some served under Dorothea Dix as official paid Army nurses; others served in a volunteer capacity. The author corresponded with those women still alive to obtain their personal memories of the war years. Photographs of the individual are included when available. A wonderful resource for learning about the nurses who did not publish their memoirs and who otherwise would have been forgotten.… (meer)
