Christopher Wakefield is an ass who can't see a no as meaning no and honestly I wanted her to get away from him, he deserved his rich spoilt brat cousin in marriage.
There was an awful lot of commentary on people's behaviour and particularly from people who created that behaviour in the first place.
Gah. I'm not aure why I kept reading, I was hoping for some sort of redemption or change but nope.

Sarah Henley grew up wealthy and that all changed when her parents and brother die. Distant relatives inherit and she's left to fend for herself (with her sisters) she finds a job as a companion and the latest woman she's accompanying has ideas about getting her married, which bemuses Sarah. Nicholas Swift is a rake, a gambler and "born on the wrong side of the blanket". When they start to flirt sparks start to fly and they really find themselves being drawn together. But without money they have a lot of problems to overcome before the happy ever after.

An intriguing premise, but the characters were so self-absorbed that I frequently found myself hoping they'd be unhappy for the rest of their lives. And the writing itself was florid, imprecise, and ill-paced.
