Overall, I found this to be such a interesting read. I really liked how this story not only told the women role in disney but also just the general story of disney as a company. I really loved meeting all of these women who crafted some of my favorite movies of all time. It liked how this book focused on several women but also gave you details about so many more women who we never knew. I thought this book also pulled so many elements from history as well that connected back to diseny as well. I wish the second half of the book was just as detailed as the first half and wish we got more information about the later movies. I would def check out more reads by this author in the future.… (meer)

The book is about 4 women loved their country and who shaped the CIA by infiltrating foreign cities, recruiting spy networks, and providing valuable knowledge to US policy makers. One example is the woman who knew the Soviets were about to launch Sputnik, but whose warnings to alert the higher ups were ignored by her boss. She knew the CIA would be blamed for intelligence failure. Another knew of a plot to assainate the King of Jordan and was able to get him protection. The author skipped around too much for me to keep the 4 threads in my head until a little later. Names with too little background were not memorable enough for me to identify who I was reading about and where they were in the story.… (meer)

A compelling exploration of the lives and experiences of the women who worked in Disney's animation studios from the mid-1930s through to the release of Frozen. Nathalia Holt does a brilliant job of describing the lives of these women as well as the working conditions and the technical and artistic contributions they made to Disney's animated films as well as to the animation industry at large. She doesn't shy away from some of awful sexism and racism that was endemic in the industry, particularly in the 30s through 50s although the gender gap in animation continues to be significant even in recent years. Fascinating reading for both Disney nerds as well as those interested in women's history.… (meer)
