為了研究所考試翻閱，才發現錯誤頗多。許老的中國史觀念許多都已經過時了，比如說談宋代，許多論點是想當然爾，連劉子健的論文都沒有看過。他自己最得意的，貫穿全書的區域經濟體系之分合，也因為沒有內在動力的解釋而顯得僵化。許老最好的著作還是他的上古史，寫通史，對他來說太過了。
