My Mom Is a Beekeeper by Sarah Hughes is a nice "leveled reader" that provides information about the occupation of beekeepers. The book begins by introducing a boy named Jake whose mother is a beekeeper. Each page has 1-2 sentences on a Kindergarten to First Grade level. I used this book while working one-on-one with a student during our Language Arts block. Most of the words are decodable and the students were able to decude other words by reading with meaning. I will use this book with other students who are on the same level for instruction. The student was able to read and comprehend this book, and could also retail the main idea and details afterwards.… (meer)
