Abyss: The deep sea and the creatures that live in it door Clarence P Idyll
Despite the relative age of publication and the lack of the latest discoveries, this is still a fascinating book to read. The illustrations are a little simple (black and white, line drawings), but the descriptions are very vivid and the creatures described often seem taken from the pages of science fiction rather than fact and oceanography. The prose is lively and written for the layman.
