I thought this was a great little primer for those of us who feel like running would be good for them, but really have never liked it or been able to make a solid start. The snappy, humorous writing style was a big plus as well. Recommended if you think this might be a fit for you.

First, I'm going to go ahead and agree with other commenters about how disingenuous it is to say that you hate running when you're on the track team and are otherwise an athlete. When I first got into running in 2006/2007, I had NEVER participated in any sport (except for downhill skiing) in my life. I was not an athlete and had a hard time picturing myself as a real runner, until I ran marathons.

I broke my ankle in 2013, and literally every year since then have desperately tried to get back into running. I LOVE RUNNING. I've never thought it sucked. But every time I try, disaster strikes. My ankle flares up. I develop insomnia. A pandemic hits and my work schedule is thrown out of wack. Every time I try I get derailed by a health issue and cannot make the running stick. I have gained a ton of weight and feel out of shape. I need assistance, because I clearly cannot do this on my own. Yet, I still have the "spirit of the runner" in me. I don't need to start from scratch. I can go out and run a 5k (poorly) so it's not like I need a full-on couch to 5k program. I am looking for advice everywhere. I cannot find it.

This book is for beginners, people who do not see themselves as a runner. This book would have helped me out a lot back in 2006. It does not help me today.
