Star Trek: Countdown door Robert Orci

I don't normally read graphic novels or comic books, but I bought this for my 10 year old because we love all things Star Trek. It's a quick engaging read and tells us the fate of The Next Generation characters following their last movie, "Nemesis" released in 2002, as well as being a prequel to the first Star Trek movie featuring younger versions of the original characters (2009). Suffice it to say, time travel is involved.

Recommended if you have seen the movies and are into Star Trek.

Star Trek (2011-2016) Vol. 1 door Mike Johnson

Not overly impressed! In fact, disappointed. Supposedly set between the first two movies of the 2009 Star Trek series reboot, this is actually a rehash of two episodes from TOS, "Where No Man Has Gone Before" and "The Galileo Seven", featuring the new younger characters from TOS. Unoriginal and boring. Just watch the original series!

Blade Runner 2029 Vol. 3: Redemption (Graphic Novel) door Mike Johnson

Unlike Origins series, this story (as was case with 2019 story-line) manages to incorporate social critique in effective manner. It is there, visible and making an impact but not diverting attention from the story itself.

Volume 3 is conclusion of Yuton [the Nexus Vampire] story-line. After escaping Ash during the attack on the police station, Yuton sends out his soldiers to bring in more androids into his group - Ash's and her lover's attempts to dissuade these renegades to join the underground getting undermined at every step. This constant walking on an knife edge, living between retiring androids and saving them exposes Ash to danger from unexpected corner. As story progresses, Ash's life comes falling down in flames around her, and she gets pushed ever toward the final showdown with the Yuton.

Ending might be considered a little bit underwhelming but I expected something like this - entire Yuton's story, his vision of himself as a chosen one is a tragedy, his yearnings and (you might say subconsciously imprinted) goals were all set by his creators for their own amusement. I just dont see any other way for Yuton to leave the stage. He is no hero, not a warrior - he is a philosopher, demagogue, one who thinks he is the "chosen" one, the "healer" but in truth cynic and creature so afraid of death and ready to use everyone and everything he can to escape it.

With Ash now in conflict with police story ends on a mysterious note and makes me wonder when is 2039 volume 1 coming out :) truly looking forward to it.

Art as always is just beautiful as is/was the case with all previous issues.

Highly recommended to fans of Blade Runner universe and SF noir detective stories.… (meer)

Blade Runner 2029 Vol. 2: Echoes door Mike Johnson

Story continues with Ash trying to prevent Yotun from bringing down the city down to its knees. What starts as a raid on a party of wealthy people of the city soon deteriorates into waves of violence where Yotun and his androids begin a full war against the city, destroying not only law enforcement but also main city infrastructure [and indirectly civilians].

Soon our heroine will find herself fighting to save the people she loves because zealots like Yotun dont ever stop, they are the truth and he holds his people to be future god-like rulers of the world commanding the humans, and who ever stands in their way gets blown away. So when he finds out about Ash's lover he decides to stop Ash in a most brutal way.

Very interesting story but, as is usually the case with chapters in the middle of the storyline, it leaves the reader wanting more and it ends on a cliffhanger for which I hope they deliver the follow up book very, very soon :)

Art as always is good. So far this story-line together with the arc about beginnings of blade-runners is managing to keep recognizable and consistent level of quality of art. Very noir, very dystopian, artists have an eye for shots and angles that make the books very alive and cinematic like.
