So glad I listened to the audio for this. I love SGJ but I find myself easily lost in his writing style. A lot is so conversational, and kid of stream of conscious thoughts for the characters. I was able to follow along so much better with the audio, while reading I often have to re-read passages because there’s just so much there or I’m missing the tone used by the characters. With the audio I did not find myself rewinding!

He is such a detailed writer, you would need to read this one at least 5 times to get the full picture of everything going on. Don’t Fear the Reaper is so action packed, there’s multiple perspectives so you’re switching between POVs and trying to keep track of so many experiences. With the audio there are multiple narrators and it’s really really well done. I’m going to be thinking on this one for a while, I am not sure if I have sorted through all that happened, I for sure missed things.

Overall, wow, what a comprehensive homage to the genre while also subverting it and creating such a unique and powerful, shall we say, defining the new slasher? It’s much more than just the slasher elements, my quickly written review can’t do justice to the complexities of the story and the characters… if you’re not reading SGJ yet, it’s time to!
