Richard Lafargue es un eminente cirujano plástico perseguido por sucios secretos. Tiene un quirófano en el sótano de su castillo y mantiene prisionera a su pareja, Eve, en su dormitorio, una habitación que ha equipado con un intercomunicador y altavoces de 300v a través de los cuales brama órdenes. A Eve sólo se le permite salir a desfilar en cócteles y el último domingo de cada mes, cuando la pareja visita a una joven en un manicomio. i seriously have no idea what to say about this book. i have no idea how i feel about it. i didn't even know how many stars to give it, so i erred on the side of caution. fucked up and exploitative? interesting comment on revenge and gender? neither? both and more? i already knew the "big twist," since one of my students had to be taught the phrase "spoiler alert" during class one day, unfortunately too late, but that may have been why i read it. i would have liked to have had fresh eyes going in, but oh well. i will see the almodovar film, that's for sure, since i feel like i would be less creeped out by his take on some of the more difficult issues here.… (meer)
