Such an interesting story and well developed characters. I loved how intertwined the lives of the characters were even though they were miles apart in social standing. Loved the suspense and development of the plot. Will want to read more by this author.

Ugh. I *tried* to like this book, I really did. The subject matter (the south both in the 1800s and today, the Denmark Vesey uprising, racial tension) is both fascinating and current and appealed to me on many levels. Sadly, however, the writing felt laborious, the descriptions of Charleston and the people were overly flowery and went on and on (and on). And I rolled my eyes more than once at the stereotypically written southern ladies. In the meantime, I never felt that I got to know the protagonist at all and I cared for her not a whit. I usually love a good mystery but this time not only did I see the answer a mile away... I couldn't care less about it. I gave it two stars and not one because clearly there was some effort put into this and, again, the plot had potential... But it was never reached. Just meh to the nth degree.… (meer)

Slow to get into. An interesting "historical" novel surrounding the building of the Biltmore house.

Amie has returned from the war to her home town on the coast of Maine. She is reconnecting with her foster mother, Shibby, when sweet, silent little boy is abandoned with a note pinned to his chest. Amie and Shibby take him in and Amie goes to work trying to find out more about him. Then a socialite is found dead and everyone is a suspect!

There are a lot of moving parts to this story and it just kept getting better and better as I moved along. I enjoyed the small town Maine setting in post war 50s. Plus, the mystery and all the secrets really keeps the reader guessing. And Amie….she is one of my favorite characters. She is tip top smart! I never knew about photo interpreters. I loved learning about this area of the war. And of course I had to look it up!

Need a good mystery full of secrets…THIS IS IT! Grab your copy today!

I received this novel from the publisher of a honest review.
