Andrea Kane

Anyone who reads my reviews knows that I really don't like thrillers which include sections telling us what the perp is up to. This one not only has lots of perp centered text, but mixes it in with the main narration about Sloane Burbank and Derek Parker, attempting to differentiate them by changed in typeface. In the paperback edition I have, the copyeditor goofed and some of Sloane's font is used for the perp. I worked hard not to read anything about the perp but it was harder than usual.

Anyway, I like Sloane and Derek but the book isn't that great. A lot of drama centers around Sloane's injury last year and her subsequent abrupt resignation from the FBI and flight from her love affair with Derek. Unfortunately, I can't see why she did it and no amount of anguished dialog was able to explain it to me.

The story line for this book is a bit stretched and a couple of the murders are very sad and if I were the editor I would have tried to talk the author out of them. I don't see the perp as capable of what he's done.

All in all this rates about a 2.75 for me. I wouldn't recommend it unless there was nothing else available to read.… (meer)

Firstly, my gratitude to Bonnie Meadow Publishing and Edelweiss for granting me access to this awesome thriller! I have always read historical fiction from this author hence this is my first read of this genre and also my first Forensic Instincts.

No doubt Andrea Kane is a wonderful author and I would not expect anything less. This being the 10th book of the series, I can totally read it as a standalone, not worrying of getting loss in the hype / suspense! It was engaging from the start to the end and I did not get confused even with the many characters involved. I am partial to some of the characters especially the claircognizant one! I won't mind having such natural intuition.

This novel somehow reminded me of this TV series, Unforgetable, with a mix of Criminal Minds. With the mind game leading from one case to another, it truly had me guessing on who did it. In the end, I was half right LOL! If private detective thriller is your vibe then do give this Forensic Instincts a try.… (meer)

For the most part I really loved this. My biggest issue was the inclusion of the clairvoyant. I don't mind reading about psychics. And I like crime. But I'm not a huge fan of mixing the two. While Claire seemed like an alright character, her insights into Krissy's mind annoyed me. I had to work hard to ignore it. I could've accepted it had she been more like Shawn from Psych. Her own view that it's just precognition was acceptable. But seeing visions of how Krissy was feeling was just a step too far for me.

But that was my biggest issue. The rest of the book was enjoyable. I liked the cast of characters. The mystery was interesting, if a little predictable. The romance between Hutch and Casey was alright, although the sex scene was a bit out of left field. It was rather graphic for what was otherwise mostly a crime novel. Although this was long, the pages flew by. I'll definitely be picking up more of the series. 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4.… (meer)
