Coming in Third door Amber Kell
I bought this years ago and never read it so decided to give it a shot. Nope -- just nope - I expected an Amber Kell short story. She does not do character development or world-building in her shorts, but her story is usually good. This one was okay up until the last page where it was like 'Oh I have 100 words left - let the queen fix it all!' Nope - this story ended on the rising action with a totally improvised outside fix - so sad
While Amber's longer more developed books are ones I really enjoy, these shorter snacks have their place. This one was not one of her best short stories - left a lot to be desired. 2.5/5
This was a visit to memory lane for me. Amber Kell was one of my favorite go-to authors when I needed a snack to fill a gap between deep-dive reads.
If you go into this expecting great detail and development - then you did not check the page count. As a short story, it is okay - fast-moving and just enough detail to keep you going. A bit of snark and good word weaving, but light on the romance and sex. It will leave you with a ton of questions, but makes a nice snack.

This installment picked up right where the first book left off with Sam tryng to track down Hartman's daughter. With the aid of Hartman's ex lover, the demon Danjal, Sam finds a few possible locations where the human/siren gang may be holding te children. The investigation is hampered by the discovery of a lost naiad, Springlily who takes up residence in the bathtub in one of Sam's apartments. Sam's powers are growing due to his familiar and to Sam finally mating with Bob. Their happiness may be short lived when the siren Queen calls for Sam's death.
I enjoyed this story and think that Sam and Bob are terrific. Hartman and Dan were a very interesting addition to the story also. The story flow was a little choppy in places which made it less enjoyable to read. One example was the introduction of Bob's ex boyfriend Josh. He added nothing to the story whatsoever except for word count. I also got confused when the different families came to collect their children. The treaty bracelet was a nice touch and I imagine that it will come into play in Sam's battle against the sirens which has to be coming in my opinion. . While I found the story a fun read, I couldn't help but wish it was longer so that it did not feel so rushed. The HEA ending was there and there was no cliff hanger like there was in the previous book. If you enjoyed The Case of the Cupid Curse, you are guaranteed to enjoy this adventure.… (meer)
