I fall in love with this series again and again with each new book. Whisper Room brought me back to journalist Geneva Chase and the regular cast of characters. This installment had a bit of everything, sex, intrigue, blackmail, murder, justice and so much more. The Whisper Room is an exclusive high-priced escort service whose members are being blackmailed and an employee found murdered. Genie, as always, is a dog with a bone and determined to drill down into this unsavory world and find out who is behind it all.
Quick read that captured my attention and didn't let go. I recommend starting at the beginning and really get to know these characters, it brings so much more enjoyment to each subsequent book.
I'd like to thank NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for providing me with an advanced e-copy of Whisper Room in exchange for my honest opinion.… (meer)
Geneva Chase is now freelancing for Lodestar Analytics. She has been tasked to investigate the deaths of Morris and Julia Cutter, retired CEO of Continental Petroleum and Gas and his wife. The police said it was a murder/suicide but Eric Cutter, son of the couple, disagrees. As Genie investigates, CP&G execs encourage / threaten her to finish the investigation quickly. The reason - a climate control hearing in DC that could harm their business. As Genie finds, the wealthy oil industry will do everything to protect its interest. Always fun reads, with a nod to escalating climate crisis. Looking forward to book 5!… (meer)
Very fast paced with well-developed characters. Riveting. No need to recap or get into spoilers, but this is a really good read! I requested and received a free e-arc from Poisoned Pen Press via NetGalley. Thank you
Book 3 really continues much of what happened in book 2 (Darkness Lane), so be sure to read that first! The notebook that Genie received has her trying to decipher the codes in the book. This leads to her following a drug dealer, and that sets a slew of things in motion. Genie is still in the sights of the Tolbonov brothers, the newspaper may get sold due to lost advertising dollars, and Genie is investigating some ruthless murders as well as some drug deaths. She continues to rely on Shana Neese and John Singleton for help (from book 2). Of course, Mike Dillon, police is also a great confidant. Genie may be on to a new adventure, but she is still digging deep into the scary world of murder!… (meer)
